Garden HomesGarden Homes Growing in GlencoeGarden homes are growing all around Glencoe. This is great news for forty and fifty-somethings planning for the future, and perfect timing for the sixty-plus population that would enjoy less maintenance and upkeep. The City of Glencoe’s present administration had the foresight to pass an ordinance to allow garden home zoning. In a recent interview, Mayor Charles Gilchrist related that as a result of this planning, Glencoe now has three garden home subdivisions that are under construction. The Villas at Briarwood are located on Gulf Steel Drive adjacent to Briarmeade Golf Course. The Villas are under the development of Bristol Development, LLC which is owned by Phillip Higginbotham and Michael Arthur. Councilman Danny Wagnon stated, “I am excited about the additional housing in Glencoe. Our residents no longer have to leave Glencoe to purchase a garden home. These three subdivisions have sites for close to one hundred homes. That is potentially one hundred more families supporting our local businesses.” After talking with Phillip Higginbotham it is clear that he is redefining the standard garden home. The homes are upscale and larger than most garden homes. The average house size is 1800 square feet. The home that can currently be seen under construction is 2000 square feet. The average lot size is 66 feet wide and 85 feet deep. Phillip stated, “When a person decides to purchase a garden home so that they will have less work and less upkeep, they shouldn’t have to sacrifice quality. Our homes are upscale and quality throughout.” All of the garden homes are brick and feature all underground utilities, hardwood floors, and ceramic tile throughout. The subdivision will have sod, attractive landscaping, and an irrigation system. Golfers will enjoy the easy access to the golf course. Higginbotham says that outside of the upscale, quality features, the biggest advantages of his garden homes are the easy entry access and the easy care lawns. Phillip explains, “The homes are built on ground level so it is quick and easy to get in and out of the house. When the homeowner gets out of their car in the garage, they are one step up into the house.” The yards are the perfect size. They are large enough for the kids, grandkids, or the family pet to play, but will not consume precious time with maintenance. Whether you love growing roses or tomatoes, with all the time you will save on lawn care, you can truly see how your garden grows.
